The Career and Community Studies culminating career readiness experience is a year long, self selected, off campus internship.
Students intern at a community-based business, office, or school in the Mercer County area for both fall and spring semesters during their senior year for CCS course credit.
Each students’ placement is developed after a series of individual workshops focusing on person-centered life planning goals and past career readiness experiences to specifically meet the student’s employment and life goals after graduation.
In addition to interning an average of 15 hours per week, students are responsible for commuting to/from their internship placement. Past students have used NJ Transit’s public transportation or paratransit service, rideshare services, or driven their personal vehicle. Program staff work with students to support and monitor their transportation plans.
Students also participate in a weekly internship seminar which supports work based skills, reflection, problem solving and overall growth.
On-site peer mentor support is provided throughout this experience with a lens towards natural worksite support.
